Dung Beetle Therapy (October 2010 Update)

When I was asking for guidance for meditations for my second meditation CD I was shown a dung beetle! So I did a bit of research.

Dung beetles feed on manure (hence the name). They use it to provide housing and food for their young, and in doing so, improve and nourish the soil. They accomplish this important contribution to the ecology simply by doing what they were born to do; by listening to their innder guidance. They don't question the validity of their work; they don't judge the value of their work. They just do what they were born do do. It is often difficult to know what our path is, especially when society, our family, our friends, our peers, our employers, our government, our religions, have so much to say about what we "should" and should not be doing. About what is accepted and what is not accepted. We are not taught to listen to our inner voice. We are usually taught to ignore the inner voice. We are also taught to make judgments on everything. Our society judges us by what we do, how we look, how much money we make. These things are all transient and will, at some point in time, change or no longer exist.

What our society has forgotten about is the content of our heart. This is the greatest gift we have to give. But we have learned to shield our hearts, to deny our heart's desire, to deny our true essence. The only way to return to a state of joy is to re-learn how to listen to our hearts, our inner voice, to follow our dreams, to breath in the unlimited possibilities of the Universe. How do you find your path? How do you learn to listen to your heart? There are many ways. One is through meditation, another is simply through doing what brings us joy.

In love and light,
Aedan
